THIS REGULATION SPECIFIES HOW PASSIVE FOREIGN INVESTMENT COMPANIES ELE TO BECOME QUALIFIED ELECTING FUNDS. BECAUSE OF A STATUTORY CHANGE, THESE PROCEDURES ARE NO LONGER NECESSARY, SEE NOTICE 88-125, 88-2 C.B. 535. HOWEVER, CERTAIN OTHER ELECTIONS TO BE MADE BY U.S. SHAREHOLDERS OF THESE COMPANIES ARE STILL REQUIRED, AND THESE REGULATIONS PRESCRIBE RULES FOR THOSE ELECTIONS.
