This request is for an extension of this currently approved information collection. The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) currently collects census-level information on fishing vessel and gear characteristics in the commercial shrimp fishery that operates in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico. NMFS uses this information to conduct analyses that improve fishery management decision-making and to ensure compliance with national goals, objectives, and requirements of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and other applicable laws and statutes..
