The Warranty Rule requires warrantors to include in their written warranties on consumer products costing more than $15 certain material facts regarding terms and conditions. The Rule prevents deception by providing consumers with information to assess written warranty terms.
The Warranty Rule does not require that a manufacturer or retailer warrant a consumer product in writing. However, if they choose to warrant a consumer product in writing, the warranty must comply with the Rule.
There are no program changes. The estimated total annual hours of burden has been adjusted downward from 216,752 hours in 2022 to 209,048 in 2025 due to a decrease in the number of manufacturers estimated to be subject to the Rule based on recent Census data (27,094 in 2022 and 26,131 in 2025).
The decrease in annual hours of burden also decreases the estimated total annual labor costs, which have been adjusted downward from $29,652,215 in 2022 to $28,977,188 in 2025. This decrease in annual labor costs was offset partially by increases in the hourly wage rates for clerks (from $18.75/hour in 2022 to $21.86/hour in 2025) and legal support (from $28.46 in 2022 to $32.60/hour in 2025).
