Abstract: The Department of Education is requesting a revision of the currently approved Direct Loan General Forbearance Request form information collection. We are revising the current Direct Loan form to include the FFEL and Perkins Loan programs making it easier for borrowers to request this action. The revised form includes formatting changes and wording enhancements for clarity.

Short Statement: The revisions to the current form cause the adjustment to this information collection. The change in burden is due to an increase in the number of borrowers (2,188,771 responses, an increase from prior responses of 1,308,453) who will use the form as a result of including the FFEL and Perkins Loan programs in addition to the Direct Loan program on the form, and a decrease in the amount of time it is estimated to take a borrower to complete the form (175,102 hours a decrease from prior hours of 86,589).
