The 2012 Economic Census of Island Areas, conducted under the authority of Title 13, United States Code (USC), is the primary source of dependable facts about the structure and functioning of the economies of the Island Areas. The census provides the only source of data at a geographic level equivalent to U.S. counties. Economic census statistics provide benchmarks for indexes of industrial production, business activities and sales. Census data provide a framework for estimating the gross product of these areas and provide essential information for government, business, and the general public.
This economic census collection was cleared in a previous year but does not impose burden until FY 2013. It was originally cleared for just 1 burden hour as a place holder. This action will increase the burden to its actual level. This burden was fully accounted for in the original clearance request.
