This nationally representative longitudinal study of Head Start programs and families will provide data to address the following goals (1) to describe the population served by Head Start, (2) to describe Head Start services, staff, and quality, and (3) to explore change over time in child and family outcomes and their relation to program services.
US Code:
42 USC 649
Name of Law: Improving Head Start for School Readiness Act of 2007
FACES 2009 is the fifth cohort for this ongoing study of Head Start. A new sample of Head Start programs, centers, children, and families will be selected and followed longitudinally for 2-3 years. The sample design, data collection procedures, and instrumentation for FACES 2009 are mostly the same as those used in FACES 2006, and while a few new measures have been added to address current policies, the respondent burden is slightly lower due to increased efficiencies.
