Abstract: The Census Bureau needs this information to maintain its historical time series of tax collections (an important measure of the economic conditions of the state and local government sector). The Bureau of Economic Analysis uses the statistics in multiple components of the gross domestic product and national income accounts. The statistics also support economic research and comparative studies of government finances. Respondents are state and local governments.
