Participants in Federally-regulated fisheries are required to obtain Federal fishing permits. NOAA needs information from the applications for the identification of fishing vessels and dealers and the management of the fisheries. Use of permits also aids in enforcement of fishery regulations. Permitted vessels are also required to provide certain notification prior to trips or other specified actions. NOAA proposes to add the Gulf of Mexico shrimp fishery to list of permitted fisheries covered by the application, to better manage that fishery and generate fishery-specified data for management purposes.
