Terms of Clearance: This information collection request is approved as revised in 05/02/2002 memo to OMB, consistent with the following terms of clearance: (1) CNCS will use the results of this survey for program management/problem identification rather than to make general statements about those who do not use their educational awards, as it is not also surveying those who have accessed them successfully (2) CNCS will not include in any public reports comparisons of its educational award programs with other such programs, such as the GI Bill (3) CNCS will provide potential respondents with a small incentive up front ($5) rather than providing the entire amount after completion of the survey (4) CNCS will ensure that respondents are informed of the OMB number, expiration date and PRA burden statement for this collection via the advance letter sent to potential respondents (5) CNCS will provide OMB with revised survey materials showing the OMB number and PRA burden statement no later than 07/19/2002.

Abstract: AmeriCorps will conduct an in-depth study of its Education Award program to determine how effective these awards have been in attracting volunteers to the program and subsequently furthering their own education. The Corporation will use this information to identify factors that explain current usage patterns and practices that may increase access for those who have not yet used their awards. The study will target a sample of 1000 former AmeriCorps members, engaging them in a one-time 30 minute telephone interview.
