Abstract: This information is needed to determine whether back belts have a role in preventing back injuries to workers involved in manual handling tasks. The information will be used to estimate the risk of back injuries with and without belts controlling for a variety of personal and workplace risk factors. NIOSH will use the information to formulate policy recommendations with respect to the use of back belts in the workplace. The respondents are general merchandise store employees engaged in manual handling tasks.
