Terms of Clearance: The core HIS instrument and all supplements with the exception of the disability supplement are approved for use through 3/95. The pretest of the disability supplement is approved through 11/92 with the under- standing that the next submission for OMB review will include a report describing the supplement's pretest experience. In its report NCHS should provide an analysis of general nonresponse and item nonresponse for the disability supplement, with particular focus on mental and emotional health questions and technical questions assuming common understanding of bureaucratic jargon (i.e. questions 10a. and 11a. in Section J of Phase I). In addition, NCHS should prepare a comprehensi description and listing of all Federal departmental hypotheses to be researched using the disability supplement and the questions and single "hits" and combinations of "hits" supporting the research of ea of these hypotheses. Finally, assuming that NCHS is fully responsive to OMB's concerns, OMB will complete its review of the disability supplement within 30 days,consistent with NCHS' schedule to field the instrument at the beginning of calender year 1993.

Abstract: THE NATIONAL HEALTH INTERVIEW SURVEY, AN ONGOING SURVEY OF THE CIVILIA NON-INSTITUTIONALIZED POPULATION, MONITORS THE NATION'S HEALTH. THE 1993-1994 NHIS WILL INCLUDE SUPPLEMENTS ON "DISABILITY," "FAMILY RESOURCES," "IMMUNIZATION," "AIDS KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES," AND YEAR 2000 OBJECTIVES.
