Abstract: FORM 6197 IS USED TO COMPUTE TAX ON GAS-GUZZLER AUTOMOBILES UNDER SECTION 26 U.S.C. 4064. TAX IS REPORTED QUARTERLY ON FORM 720. ONE FORM 6197 IS FILED WHEN PRODUCTION AND SALES OF A MODEL YEAR IS ENDED. AUTOS NOT MEETING CERTAIN STANDARDS ARE TAXABLE. IRS USES THE INFORMATION TO VERIFY COMPUTATION OF TAX AND COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAW.
