Abstract: THE LONGITUDINAL STUDY OF AGING IS AN INFORMATION COLLECTION THAT FOLLWOS PEOPLE WHO WERE 70 OR MORE WHEN FIRST INTERVIEWED IN 1984. THE STUDY DETERMINES FUNCTIONAL STATUS AND LIVING ARRANGEMENT CHANGES OVER TIME TO ASCERTAIN THE PATHS FROM INDEPENDENCE TO DYSFUNCTION TO INSTITUTIONALIZATION AND DEATH.
