Abstract: THE 1984 NATIONAL HEALTH INTERVIEW SURVEY SUPPLEMENT ON AGI OBTAINED INFORMATION ON THE HEALTH OF THE NATION'S OLDER POPULATION (55 YEARS OR MORE). THE LONGITUDINAL STUDY ON AGING WILL FOLLOW THOSE 70 OR MORE TO DETERMINE FUNCTIONAL STATUS AND LIVING ARRANGEMENT CHANG OVER TIME TO ASCERTAIN THE PATHS FROM INDEPENDENCE TO DYSFUNCTION TO INSTITUTIONALIZATION AND DEATH.
