Abstract: SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS. DISABILITY PROGRAMS. THE SOCIAL SECURITY DISABILITY BENEFITS ACT OF 1984 (P.L. 98-460) REQUIRES THE SECRETARY T IMPLEMENT DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS IN WHICH THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A PERSON APPEARANCE PRIOR TO A DISABILITY TERMINATION IS SUBSTATUTED FOR THE FACE-TO-FACE EVIDENTIARY HEARINGS AT RECONSIDERATION. ALSO REQUIRED A DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS ON INITIAL DISABILITY CLAIMS THAT PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A PERSONAL APPEARANCE PRIOR TO THE INITIAL DENIAL.
