THE REPORT IS TO REVIEW ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ALTERNATIVES CONSIDERED TO THE CURRENT QUARTERLY REPORT. AT A MINIMUM, ALTERNATIVE TO BE CONSIDERED WILL INCLUDE: 1)REQUIRING THE MANUFACTURER TO REVIEW AN AGENCY MAILING PREPARED FROM THE MOST RECENTLY SUPPLIED DATA AND TO CERTIFY ITS ACCURACY OR PROVIDE CORRECTED INFORMATION, 2) ARRANGING FOR RETURN OF PERIODIC MAILINGS WHERE THE MAIL IS UNDELIVERABLE FOR ANY REASON, AND 3) REPORTING LESS FREQUENTLY THAN QUARTERLY. IN ADDITION, THE DEPARTMENT IS TO CONSIDER THE ELIMINATION OF THIS FORM AND THE SUBSTITUTION OF A REGISTRATION FORM. SUCH A FORM INDICATING THE TYPE, NATURE, AND CALIBER OF EACH WEAPON MANUFACTURED WOULD BE VALID UNTIL NEW ITEMS WERE MANUFACTURED OR ONE OR MORE ITEMS WERE DISCONTINUED. THE DEPARTMENTS ANALYSIS OF THIS ALTERNATIVE IS TO BE PRESENTED IN THE JUNE REPORT.

Abstract: THIS FORM IS USED TO COLLECT STATISTICS ON THE DOMESTIC MANUFACTURE AND EXPORTATION OF FIREARMS. IT IS THE ONLY GUIDE WHICH PROVIDES THE GOVERNMENT WITH AN ACCURATE TOTAL OF THE FIREARMS PRODUCED AND EXPORTE IN AND FROM THE UNITED STATES. THE FORM IS ALSO USED IN CRIMINAL OR COMPLIANCE INVESTIGATIONS.
