Abstract: THESE DATA ARE USED BY THE FRB (1) TO ANALYZE AND INTERPRET MOVEMENTS IN THE MONETARY AGGREGATES, (2) TO OBSERVE COMPETITIVE DEVELS BETWEEN BANKS AND THRIFT INSTITUTS, AND (3) TO HELP MONITOR THE EARNINGS POSI TION OF DEPO INSTITUTS. THESE DATA PROVIDE THE FRB AND THE DEPOSITORY INSTITUTIONS DEREGULATORY COMMITTEE (DIDC) WITH A FACTUAL BASIS FOR APPRAISING THE EFFECTS OF INTEREST RATE CEILINGS AND FOR MONITORING THE IMPACT OF THE GRADUAL REMOVAL OF SUCH CEILINGS.
