Abstract: 26 U.S.C. 6411 REQUIRES IRS TO PROCESS TENTATIVE CARRYBACK CLAIMS FILE BY TAXPAYERS. IN ORDER TO PROCESS THESE CLAIMS, PREVIOUS YEAR RETURNS ARE NEEDED. IF WE CANNOT LOCATE ONE OF THESE RETURNS, THIS LETTER IS USED TO REQUEST ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM THE TAXPAYER TO HELP IN LOCATING THE RETURN.
